Recently I had the pleasure of going to the Coast Guard House in Narragansett, Rhode Island. My husband and I went on a day date and headed there. We hadn’t been there since our anniversary a couple of years ago. Then my husband made reservations to sit in one of their igloos for lunch. I couldn’t wait! I had been waiting to sit in an igloo for a while!

The Igloos
The igloos were something that the Coast Guard House had put up since the pandemic started as a way for people to still come dine at the Coast Guard House while still being socially distanced. Socially distanced + a warm igloo for the winter months = dining gold during the pandemic! To me, they look less like igloos and more like snowglobes. Imagine being in a snowglobe as you dine. It’s so cute and fun!
These igloos hold up to eight people, some may be a little less. There is a minimum of two people per igloo. To sit in one, you have to make a reservation for it. There is a fee of $100 for each igloo. You get an igloo for three hours. On holiday weekends, the reservation time may be a little shorter. Hey, they’re busy there, people. There is a $25 spending limit on the igloos as well. With all of the amazing food and drinks at the Coast Guard House, you’ll easily spend $25 and then some.
Check out these pictures I took of the amazing igloo that my husband and I had the chance to sit in during our lunch date at the Coast Guard House.

The Food
If you have never been to the Coast Guard House, then you’ve never had the amazing food that they have here. Their menu is awesome. It has something for everyone. The different sections that it has: Raw Bar, Soup/Salad, Appetizers, Entrees, Sides, Sandwiches, and Simply Grilled. They also have an extensive drink list. If you like wine, they have reds, whites, sparkling, and rose. If you like beers, under the Glass & Tin section they have what you need. And they also have several cocktails. There’s also a dessert menu! This place has something for everyone.
If I was going there and I was planning the perfect meal for me, I might have a problem deciding between all of the options that they have. But let me give it a whirl.
My Perfect Meal At The Coast Guard House
How would I start out my meal? I’m not a fan of raw bar, so I would jump right to appetizers. I would get the Fried Calamari. Then I would head to the soups and salads. They have Lobster Bisque on their menu. If you know anything about me, you know that I LOVE Lobster Bisque. [I got it the last time I was there, and it was the best]. Now it’s time for an entree. Big decisions to be made here. In my dream situation, I would get the Filet Mignon and add a lobster tail to it. Surf and turf! Finishing off my meal, I would get Creme Brulee. It’s one of my favorite desserts ever.
I forgot to mention quenching my thirst. Of course, I would get a glass of water. For an adult beverage, I have three drinks that I would choose from. Whichever one I would pick, it would depend on my mood that day. My three picks … a glass of the Cascinetta Vietti Moscato d’Asti, a Downeast Cider, or a Blood Orange Mule. Like I said, whichever one I get would depend on my mood that day.
These are the drinks that my husband and I got when we were there.

My Final Thoughts
Here are my final thoughts on lunch in an igloo at the Coast Guard House. The igloos were beautiful. I loved it. It looked like a comfy winter wonderland. Couches and blankets. A fireplace. They even had a speaker you could bluetooth to, so you can listen to music. It was perfect. The perfect place for a date.
The meal we had was, as always, delicious. I couldn’t have asked for a better meal that day. We’ll definitely be back and soon. And we’ll be making sure to book an igloo!
